That’s right, changes are being made to the licensing model of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013; Business Ready Licensing (BRL) is being replaced by Perpetual Licensing (PL). While details are still being released, with many still in draft form, it looks like there will be two licensing levels; Starter Pack and Extended Pack.
Starter looks to include items such as National Accounts, Customer/Vendor Consolidation, Extended Pricing and PO Generator which were previously the preserve of Advanced Management under BRL. It also looks like there will be unlimited Management Reporter Designer and Viewer licenses available under the Starter Pack which also nets you three full user licenses rather than one when you buy the base level.
As with BRL, the base level is included when you choose to upgrade to the higher level so everything you get in Starter is also available when you have Extended. One major benefit to the PL licensing is the Full and Light user functionality which, like BRL, is concurrent users.
Full users can do everything that the current users can do, and the light users are read only except on the time and expense functionality.
The one item missing so far, is the pricelist which is due at the start of August although at WPC Microsoft announced that Starter would be $5,000 (as opposed to $7,000 for the equivalent BRL Business Essentials) so it looks like the news might be good on the licensing front. Hopefully, this will make up for some of the large price increases suffered by the UK market with the “equalisation” with the Eurozone countries.
